a little help from the peanut gallery

i've got a small problem. my computer wallpaper has been up for awhile and i'm ready for a change. simple you say, just pick a new one and switch. as most things go with me, it's just not that easy.

first of all, the picture currently there is of my beloved conor oberst, of bright eyes fame. it looks something like this:

the difficulty is that when i think about changing it, i see those eyes pleading back at me, "please don't replace me. i swear i'll love you forever. keep me here or i'll die of despair!" and who can turn her back on that?

problem two is that in preparation for this blog i went searching for the picture currently on my desktop - a fuller, untainted version of the above - and it was nowhere to be found. i didn't save it the first time, just linked from the website, so if i replace it, it's gone. i mean, i have the shitty one above, but it doesn't really do the photo justice.

so now i'm in between a rock and a hard place. i need new inspiration, but i can't hurt conor's feelings, nor can i say goodbye to the photo forever.

alas, changes must happen sometime, though, so i've been cheating a bit and doing a little searching for new wallpaper. i generally don't like people (conor was the first, unless you count a nameless surfer) or pure scenic shots. i like action shots or nifty pictures of animals. national geographic is a good place to go, but they've rearranged and now offer a much narrower selection of photos than in the past.

in the spirit of democracy, i've decided to leave the next wallpaper decision to the public. below are some contenders for future wallpaper that i've managed to scrounge up. i like my wallpaper to make me smile when i first see it and/or remind me of the better things in life and/or give me that bit of motivation to get through the day (yes, i realize i'm more than a little cheesy). vote on your favorite OR send me a link to one you think is better.

if no one votes or there is a tie, i'll make the choice in exactly one week. conor might be upset...but perhaps he'll write me a beautiful, angsty song about it.

#1 - Goodall and Gorilla

#2 - Sea turtle in labor

#3 - Don't-fuck-with-me lion

#4 - Finally-in-the-water-after-months-freezing-our-asses-off-mating penguins

I think I'll let Papa Google field that one.

I like the lion. It's edgy. It's different. And I'm feelin' that the penguins are a little bit played out.
