I have no business writing this post, but I just couldn't resist when I went to my bookmarks a minute ago to check PITNB and lo and behold someone - NOT me, not to my knowledge anyway - had added the following picture to my bookmark list:
How in the HELL did that get there? I know I didn't put it there, and as far as I can remember no one else has used my computer. I did leave it on the table while I left last night...perhaps my roommate did it while I was gone?! But that doesn't make sense because she doesn't like boys. Jeff, did you do it? Do you have a secret crush on Clay Aiken? Because if so, ew. He's not cute and you can do better. Seriously, how did it get there? I don't like Clay Aiken, I hardly even know anything about him besides the fact that everyone thinks he's gay but he says he's not. I just don't care.
The second item on my agenda is Girl Scout Cookies. When I was a wee Brownie Scout, the cookies had the following names: Trefoil, Do-si-do, Samoa, Tagalong. As far as I knew, those names had stayed on through the years, and I think in the time between my stint as GS and now I've even eaten some of those cookies, known by those names. Well, I go to order cookies from the daughter of an attorney I work with and lo and behold - those fuckers have changed the names! Trefoil is now Shortbread Cookie (duh), Do-si-do is Peanut Butter Sandwich, Samoa is Caramel Delites, and Tagalong is Peanut Butter Pattie!!! WTF???
But wait, it gets better. My guardian angel decided to give me one box of each kind of girl scout cookie this year because I didn't get my order to her in time. Jeff brought the cookies home from work the other day, and let's say "Best Day of My Life" does not even begin to describe it. THEN, my roommate reveals to me that she has always known the cookies by their ridiculous "new" names of Shortbread, Caramel, etc. Excuse me, whuh?
So this has me wondering - do we get the creative names just in Georgia, birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts? (I didn't even have to look that shit up; I went to her house in Savannah and everything, but all I remember is a weaving loom in the gift shop.) You guys in GA have to help me out - what are the labels on your cookies this year - Samoa or Caramel Delite? Trefoil or Shortbread? Tagalong or Peanut Butter Pattie? (the last one conjures up images of Peppermint Patty which is 100% proof that the names are just wrong.)
Did I mention Best Day of My Life? Apparently this picture is old - it has the traditional names and some cookies that are no longer with us - the Lemon Chip and the Apple Cinnamon. May they rest in peace although personally I've never heart of them.
I think there is a cookie waiting to be eaten....

mom always gets gs cookies from school. the names have been changed!! i will back you up here, though, because truly, i might sell myself into slavery for a box of SAMOAS. this caramel delite stuff is for suckas.
I actually recently pondered this very same question when I was sent an email with a list of names for me to choose from to order from a friend's cousin's daughter (I'll take them however I can get them, ok?!) So, I went to look them up and do you know there are actually TWO different Bakers and TWO different sets of cookies listed by different names! I'm assuming it's a geographic thing, but I was highly intrigued to learn that part of the world is without such
wonders at Tag-a-long and Samoas!!

The approved bakers work directly with local Girl Scout councils. Each one of our 300-plus councils selects which baker it will work with and sets the price per box in its area. Thank you Andi! It's good to have the mystery solved, but are the stupid-naming bakers taking over the world? Did the traditional-naming bakers change?? I have to say, I'm a little concerned that the cookies have varying prices in different areas - something seems so wrong about that.
