A long, hot summer's day (read: slow day for the brain = boring post)

This post may end at any moment - the boss is out to lunch or at court and I'm going to do a quickie here because a) I haven't posted in a awhile and b) the only work I have to do is stupid filing, which, please don't get me started about how I didn't spend thousands and thousands of dollars to go to law school so that I could file. (I mean, I don't think I'm above filing or anything like that, just that I'm interning and supposed to be learning how to try cases and all. I've even got a letter from the bar saying I can do it for real, in court, if I have a supervisor. But I digress.)

Nothing much interesting to report here. As I've mentioned, internet surfing is minimal at the moment, so the only stuff worth talking about that happens to me is stupid stuff clients say, which I can't really spread on the web. I can't even remember the last time I watched tv. Although I have been keeping up with PITNB, it's usually a quick scan while I'm eating lunch and checking email.

I did see X-Men 3 this weekend, though, and that was kind of fun. I'm kind of in love with the first two X-Men movies, and this one was a little disappointing. I won't reveal any plot spoilers or anything like that, but I'll just say I think Brian Singer did a better job than Brett Ratner. Also, I heart Mystique.

In addition to X-Men, we watched ABC: Africa a documentary about African orphans, which I do not really recommend because it's mainly just a montage of people dancing and singing. It's not terrible or anything, but it's not really what I expected and I felt it could've been so much better.

Then there was The Squid and the Whale, which I would actually recommend. It's a short movie and while it deals with a painful topic - divorce - the movie is really quite charming and funny.

Finally, we watched The New World - a movie where Colin Farrell portrays John Smith and falls in love with Pocahontas. Jeff really wanted to see it, and I sort of didn't, but I'm glad I did. I can't figure out yet whether I liked it, but I definitely didn't not like it, for whatever that's worth. It's also not the movie you expect it will be, and if you really try to analyze the storytelling, that's sort of when it actually gets interesting.

In other news, I joined a new gym and am having a blast doing different classes. There's one called BodyJam where you learn dance routines and it's pretty fun - I feel 13 again, in my parents' basement making up dances to songs like "Axel F." Except that these dances are half-way good and I'm getting a decent work-out.

Wow - non-law school Niki is not very witty or fun, is she? (And please, no comments about how law-school Niki isn't very witty or fun either.)

I have wanted to join a gym for a while just so I could take classes like that. Hopefully I'll be gainfully employed soon and will have some money to spend on a gym membership!

I also saw X-Men 3 over the weekend and quite enjoyed it. I really want to see The Squid and the Whale (it's in my Netflix queue with eight billion other things). I love, love, love Laura Linney!
