Lost in Translation

Quickly, because internet is damn expensive in these here parts.

Schoolies - 17-18 year olds who have just completed the Aussie equivalent of high school; they descend upon sunny, beachside towns with a vengeance at the conclusion of their studies; aka randy teenagers

Used in a sentence: "Byron Bay is quite lovely except for all the schoolies strutting and screaming about. On my first night here, I was talking with a friend on the beachside playground when four schoolies hit on us. After figuring out we were too old for them, we were requested to applaud the schoolie in the blue shirt who had lost his 'V-card' on the previous night."

Hee. I kind of like this one. It conveys the nuance of that time of hormones and happiness and youth very well.

Surfing is going fabulously, finances not so much. Probably going back to Melbourne a week early...stay tuned!

I'm so glad you're getting to surf (and I hope that finances don't spoil the fun)!
