I wish I could hibernate.

On the plane home from Australia I watched An Inconvenient Truth. It essentially confirmed what I already knew about global warming, but also made it tangible and a little more scary. The graphs and data are pretty compelling stuff. It reinvigorated my environmentalist streak and made me pledge more eco-friendly habits in the new year.

I arrived home to pleasant 60-degree (Farenheit) weather in the ATL. In mid-December. On Christmas Day it was also somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees. Essentially, for my first month back in the States the weather has been pretty decent. I've continued wearing flip flops and t-shirts, though occasionally will need a jacket.

The past few days the temperature has plummeted and I'm cold as balls. I hate the cold, I hate winter, and I really hate snow. I was genuinely digging the warm days and driving with the windows down.

This has caused me to reflect upon whether global warming is really all that bad. Sure, polar bears are drowning because the ice in the arctic is melting and they have to swim longer distances, and that's very sad...BUT I'm now developing dry skin and that icky sinus pain feeling caused from central heating (you know what I'm talking about). Frankly, I preferred it warmer. Polar bears can adapt, or we can start putting fake ice in the Arctic Sea for them to perch on mid-swim.

60-70 degree weather on Christmas Day totally freaks me out. I've read some reports that the warm winter may have no relation to global warming (though I'm not sure I believe it); nonetheless, it's unnatural. As someone who loves snow (and who hates summer), I say, bring on the cold!

P.S.--Despite our differences, I do very much appreciate the creativity of your fake ice idea. :)
