No, I'm not going to start video-blogging on YouTube (God help us all should I decide to do that because I'd look like a total whiny bitch).
While in Australia I discovered Skype - software similar to Yahoo! and Google which allows free telephone calls from computer to computer. In addition, you can call extremely cheaply to many landlines/mobiles all over the world. The cool thing about Skype is that it brought me into the 21st century and made me realize the viability of video-calls a la The Jetsons.
Tonight, feeling the procrastination flow, I decided to purchase a webcam of my own. I bundled up (see previous post) in winter hat, coat, and gloves and set out on a journey to Best Buy. As usual, their selection failed to inspire me and I left the store empty handed, yet more determined than ever to buy the damn thing.
I just spent a couple of hours researching them online and finally made a purchase. Ordinarily I wouldn't bore you guys with the mundane details of all this, but this time I thought you might like to know. The webcam I bought cost $53. If you purchase it before January 22, 2007 from Amazon.com, you can get a $40 rebate - non-math majors, that means the webcam costs a mere $13!
True, it wasn't the absolute best webcam I looked at, but for its price range, it seems pretty solid. For it's $13 price range, it basically is a steal. Moreover, the average rating on Amazon is 4 out of 5 stars, based on 77 reviews. Not too shabby.
So head on over to Amazon, pick up this bad boy, download Skype,* and we can all be The Jetsons!
*If you really do download Skype, my user name is niki.(lastname); if you just search my name without the "." you won't be able to find me.

How cool! I'm very intrigued...!! That would be great for closing the distance gap between us and friends/family!
