Academy Awards Re-cap

This is the "poor-man's" Oscar fashion round-up. My mammoth posting last year took days and numerous posts, but this year I haven't the time or the creativity to match it. However, I would like to dish with the ladies (and the men, should they desire), about the gowns worn last evening.

Update: It has been privately expressed to me that this post needs pictures. In my never-ending quest to deliver to the public what it wants, I've rounded up some pics and even discovered another fugly dress.

All in all the dresses were underwhelming. The colors were pretty blah, and I thought a lot of them were very "same-y." I think my favorites were: Kate Winslet, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Jessica Biel. The more I see pictures of Maggie, the more I fall in love with her dress. Jessica Biel is probably a controversial choice, but I was just refreshed to see some color with pizazz so she got me excited. I also liked Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz because their dresses had a little bit of personality - yeah, a bit over the top, but hell, it's the occasion for it, n'est-ce pas?

Reese Witherspoon was a crowd fave at my Oscar party, but I think her hair looked like crap and she needs to eat, PRONTO. Also, Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman drove me crazy with the too-long, straight hair pulled to the side. And the bow on Nic's dress...give me a freakin' break. I do like the color, though. J Lo's hair, I thought, was also atrocious. Her dress was nifty, but they wear that stuff on Rome every week, and it just didn't do anything for her. Nothing was really drastically awful, though, as I can remember - but maybe my memory is faltering, so help me out.

I didn't notice any men with remarkable attire, although I did like Jack's new bald 'do. Helen Mirren was definitely the Queen of the evening and I'm still crossing my fingers I look as hot as her when I'm her age - are her boobs really that perky? Are they real?!

Finally, what was Anne Hathaway thinking? There's also a giant ugly bow on her backside. Disgusting.

That's all I got for now, off the top of my head - thoughts?

I also really liked Emily Blunt's dress. It was a deep royal blue metallic, and it really made her eyes pop.

Helen Mirren is one fabulously classy lady. She is truly awesome.

And I liked Reese's dress, especially the bottom. I have to say she's rocked the red carpet season sans Ryan.

And lastly, I can't decide what I think about Gwyneth's dress. I think maybe I don't hate the dress, but I don't like it on her. She still looked fresh and beautiful.

P.S. Kate Winslet may be my hero.

Oh, and I just thought of two more things:

1) Hated Jodie Foster's whole look. Did she go to Reba McEntire's stylist?

2) I thought Ellen's wardrobe was great. They put her in some really fabulous suits that were stylish but still Ellen.

Did anyone see Eddy Murphy get interviewed on the red carpet? Was he stoned or something? I really hoped he won just to hear his speech...

um--Reese Witherspoon may be anorexic, but that bitch rocks the bangs! Love it! And I actually liked Nicole Kidman's ridiculous bow b/c the dress was red. I'm so with you on Jessica Biel--hot pink--love it! Not sure about Maggie though--it's cute.

Why wasn't there a pic of George Lucas, aka, the dad from Teen Wolf? Hysterical!

I have a confession - I had to look online to see the dresses - I actually missed the Oscars (GASP!) - so I've been entertaining myself all day by perusing www.gofugyourself.com. (It's a delightful alternative to doing real work.)

Niki, like you, I was under-whelmed by the dresses this year. Helen Mirren's dress was gorgeous and she just looked amazing - she simply glowed.

I actually liked Jessica Biel's dress as well. She is one of the few women in Hollywood (in addition to Kate Winslet) that actually sports a REAL woman's body, instead of looking like a pre-pubescent teenage boy.

I have to disagree with y'all on Jessica Biel. The color of her dress was good, but the fit didn't do anything for her. And did she CRIMP her hair? It looked terrible!
