You guys may remember some hair drama back in the old days of the blog - actually having to call the salon and re-schedule a coloring because I was not pleased. The truth of the matter is that I've grown accustomed to hating my hair for the first week or so. There is the initial moment of salon euphoria which is quickly upstaged by the private viewing in the rearview mirror of the car almost resulting in 72 wrecks on the way home.
Despite my insistence that "it's just hair" and that it will "grow back," I must admit that occasionally tears have been spilled.
Getting my hair cut in the new town, the SMALL town, made me just as nervous as my first day on the job. What the hell would they do to me here? Would they make me look like one of the ladies from Fried Green Tomatoes?
Then it happened. I stumbled upon a surprisingly upscale-ish salon a block from my work. I called. I tried to make an appointment, but they insisted I first come in for a consultation. I liked the sound of that.
Enter Viviana. My hero. She is a fiesty Latina who has spent the last 11 years in Miami. I instantly loved her, and I didn't even mind that she was brutally honest about the sad state of affairs on my head. We discussed what to do, then made an appointment.
Today I went in for the procedure: highlights and a cut. I was excited, but a little apprehensive. I just kept reminding myself that if I hated it, I could just go elsewhere - but that something, anything, would look better than the current condition of my mop.
The surgery wasn't flawless, but I have to say that I ADORE the end result. It's not flashy or creative or cutting edge - but it's ME. The color is done well, the cut is cute, and I dare say my hair was actually BOUNCY when I left the salon. I had to rush home to walk Masala after it was all done, so I sadly did not get a pic. Really, it's not even picture worthy - it's just done right and it's done well...and I don't have to hate for an entire week to get used to it.
Oh, and one more thing...did I mention that Viviana has done the hair of Britney Spears and Martha Stewart? Yeah. That's right, ya'll. I can technically say that me and Brit have the same stylist. Apparently Miss Viviana used to work at the Ritz-Carlton in Miami and has coiffed many a celeb while on location there. Who knew I'd find such high end service in a place like this!

I'm jealous! I am in NYC, where I should be able to get the best damn haircut ever. But that's the thing--there are so many choices, how do I possibly pick? And here a "trendy" looking place is just about every place, including crappy salons. So I'm going to brave it this weekend, and hopefully I'll have good news to report on my blog too.
On another hair related side note -- for my costume tomorrow, I am wearing a bleach blonde wig, and quite frankly, I am scary looking. My pasty skin really does not go well w/ that shade of blonde-hahaha. Oh well--on Halloween, I'm supposed to be scary, right?
I'd still like to see the result! And congrats on stumbling onto such a gem. Every girl deserves to have a stylist that they love and trust :)
What a great find! It's always comforting to have someone you trust and know won't lead you astray when it comes to coloring your hair!
It's all about the hair! I find getting my hair done to be pretty close to good therapy with the right person.
