#30 NBPM (Finale!) - Obsession

Ok. I'm an addict. I absolutely cannot get enough of Grey's Anatomy. Cannot. Get. Enough.

My love of the show has had a strange side effect other than my incessant thinking, talking, and writing about it: I want to go to medical school. More specifically, I want to be a surgeon. Not sure what I'll specialize in just yet, but it will be rad.

Grey's has made me a medicine junky. I used to be all afraid of the blood and guts and needles and such. Well, ok. I still am. But the mystery of medicine and the human body. Fascinating. Really freakin' fascinating.

A month or two ago I was in the bookstore and I was browsing the paperback table per usual. I immediately gravitated toward Complications: A Surgeon's Notes on an Imperfect Science. I bought it and chose to read it first of the three books I bought.

Although I now never want to have surgery, like EVER, and this book probably caused me more stress during Masala's recent procedure, it was an incredibly interesting read. Really. You should read it. Medicine rocks. Surgery, in particular...wow. If I could do it over again, I think I just might go to medical school.

It hasn't stopped there. I want to get the second book by the Complications author, which is out in paperback in January. Also, now that I've caught up on Grey's and it's stalled mid-season, I'm seeking out other medical dramas to fill the void.

Tonight is a classic case in point: Browsing the racks at Blockbuster to entertain m while I puppysit the recovering Masala, I actually felt pangs of regret, nostalgia, and envy when I saw the Grey's Anatomy dvds. I wanted to go back to the beginning...before I'd watched them all. I wanted to re-experience the first time with each episode. But I couldn't. Rather than waste money on re-watching (which I intend to do when I buy the complete sets), I opted for Season One of House.

I've seen parts of House and I like what I've seen. Plus, Ash is totally into, so I figured it wasn't much risk. Doesn't matter really what the script is like, as long as someone is being cut open, I'll be satisfied. Well...sort of satisfied. Every show should have McDreamy. And I mean that - McDreamy, he should be written into ever tv show from here on out. Ratings would soar.

Thanks for coming along for the NaBloPoMo ride. It's been fun...sometimes. Sometimes it sucked monkey butt. But I did it, and that's enough really. Marathon done. See you guys...I have no idea when. Maybe tomorrow, maybe in a couple days, maybe a week - but I will see you again.

I love, love, love "Grey's" also! It is so sad to me when there is a week without an episode. It is probably my favorite show of all time except for "Party of Five" (which, by the way, is apparently never going to be released on DVD beyond Season 2) and "Sex and the City."

I heart House. He's a totally sarcastic ass, but somehow, so fascinating and oddly lovable. Let me know what you think!

I need to allow myself to be sucked into the Grey's vortex. Perhaps now when it's hung up with the writers' strike?

I totally love medical shows. I like Grey's, but I have to say, I truly LOVE House and hope that you find that it fills your void. It's so much fun! Greg & I haven't seen much of the first season and I hope to catch up one day, but we've been hooked since the second season. He's so arrogant, but it's really witty and well written. Really great show. Also, ER is still out there and going strong in my opinion. Crossing Jordan was a good show, but I'm not sure it's still on - it was a medical examiner, so it was slightly different, but still intriguing to cut up bodies and figure out what happened. Nip/Tuck is gruesome, plus some extra really extreme storylines. Scrubs is a "medical show" although you won't get much actual surgery from it, but it's well written with usually a good story - dare I say "moral?" I used to watch Extreme Makeover, and shows like Doctor 90210 for the reality version of cutting people up and transforming them.

Anyway, thanks for the NaBloPoMo participation. I truly enjoyed "hearing" from you regularly!

Going to have to get season one of House now. There are only two more Grey's episodes left at this point, unless by some miracle this Christmas, Santa brings me some good labor lawyers and some happy writers.

Nice work, Miss NaBloPoMo! Now you can breathe a sigh of relief for a few days...
