# 7 NBPM - Shiver Me Timbers

It's like 2 seconds into "winter" (technically I think it's fall, but it doesn't feel fall-ish), and I'm already dying.

My hands...they are never, ever warm.

My showers are becoming longer and longer because I dread the moment of stepping out into the evil winter cold that takes over my bathroom.

I can't put my finger on what it is about this particular year that has me cowering under my covers and clambering for my stocking hat so early. Maybe it was just so sudden. Literally a week or two ago I was wearing tank tops, shorts, and flip flops; then one morning I needed a parka and some f-ing snow boots.

My other theory is that fashion hates women, in particular, women's feet. We all know about the high heel - it hurts like hell and I, for one, maintain that it injures my knees. A sort of hidden danger in high heels (and other women's footwear made for work) is that you can't wear socks, so your feet get cold. Please do not even mention panty hose to me right now. A) No one under the age of 55 wears panty hose anymore on a regular basis. B) Panty hose aren't doing you any good when it's 42 degrees outside. Even if you've got on pants, your toes get cold.

Men, what do they get to wear to work? Socks. Genius. Socks might actually stand a prayer of a chance at keeping your feet warm in the winter while you're at work. Women can't wear socks with 90% of their work footwear.

I have come up with a couple of solutions:
1) Wearing boots. Boots don't look good with every outfit, though, and they are kind of pricey. Plus, sometimes they're just plain clunky and a pain in the ass.

2) Fight the power. Wear your warmest socks and your most comfortable tennis shoes. Screw fashion. If our toes freeze off, there won't be any need for shoes (or walking for that matter).

How many more months until it gets warm? I hate this. I'm moving to the tropics for reals.

Amen sister! I completely agree. I have been on a shopping spree looking for the best boots. B/c the thing w/ boots too--if you get high heels, you still break your ankles in the winter. Men just suck all around at work too. Not only do they get socks, but um, their entire wardrobe is the exact same outfit. Button down shirt, pants. I want a uniform.
