In Defense of 2008

Practically everyone I know is delighted that 2008 is out and 2009 is in. It's true - for many of my friends 2008 totally sucked.

For me, though, I will say that 2008 completely kicked 2007's ass. 2007 was one of the worst years for me in recent memory, and 2008 vastly improved upon that. No, 2008 wasn't the best year of my life, but it was pretty decent to me. So, in defense of 2008, I present to you some of the positive things it had to offer:

* BARACK OBAMA - first African-American, and hottest since JFK, to be elected President - fucking cool, even if you didn't vote for him (personally, this was super exciting to watch the entire year, and therefore, in my book, 2008 gets a lot of points just for this)

* I WON MY FIRST JURY TRIAL - if I never have another jury trial, or if I lose the next 25 in a row, I will always have this.

* MEREDITH & DEREK - finally together at last

* NKOTB Reunion

* TWO visits to Am in NYC

* Florida makes it to BCS Championship game despite BCS hating on them all season

* San Francisco with Ash and Jenn!

* Boone for "work conference" in July

* TWO Conor Oberst concerts

* Rafael Nadal wins Wimbledon and my heart in 7-hour epic final against Federer

* Brunette! After 29 years of blonde, I took the plunge. Exciting! (Who knows what color 2009 might bring?!)

* The Olympics! Michael Phelps!

* TWO murder trials - in one of them I actually cross-examined a witness (and stalked a juror? hee.)

* Smartini is launched!

* New additions to my family:
- Crock Pot
- Wii
- DDR for Wii
- MarioKart for Wii
- iPod Nano
- Purple shoes

* Newly discovered entertainment:
- Mad Men - Don Draper, can I please be your mistress?
- Gossip Girl - my blog tells me this was discovered in February
- Twilight books - I'm halfway through book 3 and trust me when I tell you there is a post coming at the end of that series from me
- T.I.
- Friday Night Lights

Something I missed? Something good happen to you in 2008 you want to share? Comments section is a safe place we can celebrate together (but I really wouldn't speak about it "out there". . .you will probably be shot - those 2008 haters are ruthless).

First, I am proud, super proud, of being a 2008 hater. But you know this . . .

On another note, I liked your list and most of them made me smile too. And I'll leave what I'm grateful for the most from 2008 - your Christmas gift to me. Seriously, I love T-rex. Ok, ok, maybe I heart Rob Pat too - nothing like a new lust for me.

And where is this optimism coming from? I love it, along with your purple shoes!

This is a great list! 2008 wasn't a total wash for me, either. It's about time someone defend it, and who better than a lawyer. :)

Excellent points, counsel.

What is T.I?

Well, I can't deny that 2008 was an awful year for me, but you do give good reasons here why it wasn't all bad. Thanks for the reminder.
