I've just returned from a weekend away in Wilmington. Ostensibly I went there for a training seminar on defending Driving While Impaired charges. About halfway through the seminar, however, my brain checked out and I spent the remainder fantasizing about what to do the rest of the weekend. Since Jeff recently moved there, it was a perfect place to just chill out and have fun after a really intense past couple of weeks. Oh, and did someone mention celebrating?
Rather than bore you all with the narrative, I'll just post some highlights:
* I saw wild dolphins for the first time!!!! Truly, truly a wonderful occasion.
* A really fucking good burrito joint - while these are a staple in any self-respecting college town or urban metropolis, my neck of the woods is severely lacking. So many salsas...how does a girl choose?
* Mid-60s weather = gorgeous walk on the beach
* Wine! Popcorn! More wine! More Popcorn!
* Sleeping in past 7am when Masala inevitably wakes up - this alone was worth the drive
* Shopping in nifty boutiques, even though I am too poor to purchase anything
* Thai food!! We were going to go out for some beloved Indian, since that's usually how Jeff and I roll, but some less than enthusiastic internet reviews scared us away. Instead we went to Indochine - horribly, terribly over-decorated, but scrumptious food for my weary tastebuds.
* Two hours in a coffee shop - Just. Reading. Ahhh...
* Being a part of the "real" world again - who knew traffic could be so exhilirating?
* Going to a real movie theatre - huge props to Jeff for agreeing to see Definitely, Maybe - I wanted to go for Little Miss Sunshine (she plays the daughter), and we were both in the mood for light fluff. And yeah, that movie is totally light fluff, but not necessarily altogether terrible. I give it a B-/B.
* Touring the studio where Dawson's Creek was filmed. Ok - technically I wouldn't call this much of a highlight since now it's all One Tree Hill-ville over there and they barely even acknowledged Dawson's, but I figure I should put it on the list since now I know that bricks on TV are usually made of painted wood.

This makes me miss Wilmington! Did the burrito place happen to be Flaming Amy's? And what coffee shop were you at? I must be able to picture you there. . . :)
So glad you had such a wonderful time!
Yes - Flaming Amy's. That place rocks. I was at one of the many Port City Javas - not downtown, but along a main road, beside corporate hq.
I am so jealous about the Dawson's tour. Good times!
Ah, you went to the PCJ on Market. That one burned down a couple of years ago when a lady crashed into it and they had to rebuild. Next time you go, you should try Nikki's downtown. I know, I know, she spells her name wrong, but it's fresh food that's really delicious and vege-friendly.
By the way, I'm totally jealous, bitch. ;)
And, p.s., you are the only person who finds Wilmywood traffic exhilarating!
I DID try Nikki's - inadvertently left it off the list. That place is killer. We almost ate there twice, that's how much I loved it.
And I'm sure after a couple of weeks in the traffic, I wouldn't find it exhilirating either - just the fact that civilization is around makes you feel alive again. Sad...so very, very pathetic.
