So cute.

This week has been pretty hellish by all accounts. Seems like everyone I've talked to or heard about has had one of the worst weeks ever. (Well, except for Tempe, who hopefully is having a kick-ass birthday week.)

Apart from puppies, these 50 seconds have provided me with perhaps my only genuine, purely blissful smile all week. Ya'll probably won't have the same result, but nonetheless, I had to share.

*And no, I didn't miss the obvious "balls" joke, I'm just rising above. That's right, just like Dr. Bailey. Rising. Above.

Sunrise, Sunset

This summer has been incredible, almost better than I could ask for, really. It has been one fun adventure after another. A smile has been nearly permanently afixed on my face.

Tonight, it is over. Fall is slowly replacing Summer. My heart is becoming heavy with dread as I anticipate colder temperatures and no imminent adventures on the horizon.

I know more good times will come, but they just seem to naturally arise in the summer like no other time of year. I always hate this part, the part where I have to put my summer in a box of memories.

Sure, I should and could have a better attitude about the changing of the seasons. I will probably work on that tomorrow.

Tonight, though, tonight it is over. And I am sad.

Who Have I Become?!

I am waaaayyy too excited about the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars.  Jewel! Shawn Johnson from Team USA Gymnastics! Jewel's husband! Li'l Kim! Not to mention my crush on both siblings, Julianne and Derek Hough.

Sigh.

Seriously. I looked at promo pics today. I don't do that for, like, anything.

Olympics: Day 16-1

I haven't watched one lick of the Olympics this weekend. I was going to tonight until I sat down to do so and discovered Masala had destroyed my remote. You can't change my TV channels without the remote (seriously), so, it looks like I nothing much to say about today's events.

Blogging everyday about the Olympics has been tough this last week, a tiring, relentless pursuit. I will say that it will be somewhat of a relief to have it all done and over. However, I know in about 2 days I'm going to be back to flipping around to find nothing but crap on TV. I'll have to pass the time by making a construction paper chain to countdown the days until the Winter Games.

So who "won" the Olympics? Depends on how you judge. USA led in overall medals: 110, 36/38/36 - roughly a third for every medal. China took the most gold, 51, with 21 silver, and 28 bronze, for a grand total of 100 medals. I'm going to say that USA won overall, because if you subtract the gold medals won by women's gymnasts (due to violation of age rules) and give those medals to us, I think we take them in overall golds won, too. Take that, suckas!

Olympics: Day 16-1

I'm not sure when this happened, but the USA women's soccer team won gold!

Even before I became a soccer superstar, I liked these ladies.

Olympics: Day 15-2

Longest article ever about sex and the Olympics.

I would really love to watch a documentary about the Olympic Village. Does that make me a huge dork? I don't care.

Olympics: Day 15-1

So I promised to write something every day about the Olympics.

This is a problem tonight. I've been out drinking with Jeff and a friend at the bar, and I have no idea what's going on over there in Beijing.

I do know that in about 5 mins I will eat some vegetarian, Morning Star Buffalo Wings. Mmm. Mmm.

Ok, so the Olympics. Australia won the gold medal in pole vault, y'all!

Olympics: Day 14-1

Fell asleep while watching track. Those track athletes wear a lot of jewelry. They also seem to have an attitude problem.

Still, it sucks that both the relay teams dropped the baton, as if they'd never done a relay before. Whoops.

Olympics: Day 13-1

When does it all end??

Damn me and my pledge to post every day. I have absolutely nothing of interest to say except that while I was composing a blog post tonight, I swear I heard the announcers say that someone's last name was "Horny." That makes me giggle.

Also, one of the flags had the abbreviation: SKN. In addition to being completely confused about what country that represents, it essentially is SKIN. Hee.

Can we tell where my mind is?

In effort to report something mildly interesting, I just expanded my horizons a teeny bit and checked out the BBC's coverage of the Olympics. Pray tell, what on earth is this? See more here.

Olympics: Day 12-1

Losing steam.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it to watch Shawn Johnson win the gold on beam (Damn you CNN on the TV in the optometrist's office!). Already fighting sleep. I've been a trooper, but I think my body is about to fall apart.

The diving hasn't enthused me the way I hoped it would, and the track flat out bores me.

Bah Humbug.

At least Matt Lauer and Al Roker came through in the clutch:

Olympics: Day 11-3

GOSSIP TRAIN

Ruh-roh Phelps Phans. Looks like he may already have a girlfriend.

Thoughts?

Olympics: Day 11-2

Sour Grapes

I have bitten my tongue up until now because I recognize that the NBC announcers are understandably biased toward the American athletes.

But REALLY. Did you see those two routines tonight? There is no way Nastia should've won the silver. She was way better than the underage girl who, for better or worse, has inspired my contempt. The judges definitely appear to be pro-China, or at least seem to be according to the experts.

That tie-breaking procedure. . .RI-diculous. It makes absolutely zero sense.

It makes it that much of a heartbreaker to think that the Chinese broke the age limit rule, too. Grr. That really pisses me off.

Nastia showed real class on the podium, which makes me very proud of her and the way she and Shawn Johnson have represented the USA. (OMG - I'm so cheesy I should be on a Wheaties commercial! Do they still make Wheaties? I think I might have to go buy some. . . .)

Olympics: Day 11-1

I missed most of the Olympics coverage today - both online (work, work, work) and tonight (long story, see part of it in previous post).

I did hear on the radio that USA v. Brazil in women's gold medal match soccer. Yay!

This also means that I didn't read any spoilers on who wins uneven bars. Currently Nasty is tied with the underage Chinese girl except He is ahead for some unknown reason.

Nastia and her dad hugging make me all warm and fuzzy inside. What a cute duo!

Olympics: Day 9-1

Yeah, yeah Michael Phelps just kicked ass again in the pool; he now has 8 gold medals in one Olympic games.

In case you haven't heard, that's more than any athlete in history.

It's also 7 more than the entire country of Mongolia. . .ever. They just grabbed their first gold medal in history, in judo.

Olympics: Day 8-1

* Did you see Phelps in the 100m fly?? Holy. Crap. I was off the couch, screaming at the TV. His mom and I both thought he got second. To be quite honest, even in slow mo it looks like the other guy touched the wall first. Thank goodness for electronic walls! (Update: Before publishing, silver medalist, Cavic, was protesting this result. This is getting interesting. I love Olympic scandal.)

* Nadal advances to the Gold Medal match in men's singles tennis! Hurray! Boo for NBC for no coverage of tennis what.so.ever. I know he's not American, but he's the #1 player in the world; some of us might be interested. (*Admittedly, I don't have cable, so it may be on the sister networks, of course this is not good enough for me.)

* More and more documents are surfacing stating that one of the Chinese gymnasts is 13/14 years old. China's got some 'splainin to do. (Also, she's not the one that I think looks youngest, so now I'm about 95% confident that one girl is totally 12.)

* This weekend will start the end of the sports we've become familiar with and transition to others that as of yet I do not care about. I don't want gymnastics to go away. I'm uneasy about track & field taking the place of swimming. If I remember from year's past, I always poo-poo track & field and then get totally into it. Go figure. What else we got going on?

Olympics: Day 7-4

Great job Nasty and Shawn!

(Thanks for making staying up until 1am worth it.)

Olympics: Day 7-3

I'm just gonna put this out there: I am SO bored of watching swimming. So bored.

Olympics: Day 7-2

Here's a video of my new Olympic crush, Alexander "Sasha" Artemev, USA gymnast.

I know lots of ladies are crushing on Phelps, but I've been searching for an Olympian to call my own (other than Nadal, naturally). So far, I've been less impressed with the hotness of Team USA than in year's past, but I think Sasha is downright adorable. His performance at the team finals on pommel horse was phenomenal, and from what I hear last night on horse he was just as grand.

You got an Olympic crush? Let's discuss!

Olympics: Day 7-1

So much to report on today that I left work early to come home and blog about it! (Also, I *might* have gotten a little bit tipsy last night and feel slightly awful today, in addition to not really reporting last night.)

* That Wimbledon re-match I alluded to last night won't be happening. Federer was upset by some American player I've never heard of. (I know it's not very patriotic of me, but I do feel bad for Federer. I do like him, just not as much as Nadal.) The women's singles tennis also will not be a Wimbledon re-match, as BOTH Williams sisters were also defeated at the Olympics.

* OH SNAP. The AP dug up some news story from several months ago stating that one of the Chinese female gymnasts is 13 years old. I am currently obsessed with this piece of information and have psychotically roved the internet seeking out more.

* I can relate to this wrestler's poor sportsmanship. I'm not saying I would've thrown my bronze medal down, but damn if my uber-competitive self wouldn't be somewhat angry not to have the gold.

* I read somewhere today that Michael Phelps consumes 12,000 calories per day. TWELVE. THOUSAND. That's almost more calories than I eat in a week. He eats like 2 pounds of pasta, lots of cheese, lots of pizza, and still has the most perfect body in the world. I hate him for this.

* Women's all-around competition tonight - I'm rooting for Nasty, but how can you not love that cutie-pie Shawn?

* Jenn mentioned the Olympic sleep disorder, and I'm just wondering if I'm the only one thinking of catching a daily early evening/late afternoon nap so that I can make it through the broadcast.
